It is of course important to put pressure on local authorities and companies in order to make them stop pollution. But you have to take a look at ‘the man in the mirror’ and ask: What can you do yourself? – Just as children know to clean up where they made a mess, then everyone should just do their bit, and even small efforts can make a big difference.

To begin with, then make a list of environmental friendly things you can do: Divide them into three groups 1) Things that save you money, 2) Things that are neutral to your expenses and 3) Things that will cost you money. Begin to do number 1 immediately, and tell others about your savings.
Talk with your friends, family members, colleagues at work etc. about what you can do individually and as a joint force to go more green. And tell it to the world by making COMMENTS HERE:

Last week the European Union ministers of environment met in Brussels, Belgium where they reached an agreement about what to propose at the United Nation’s Climate Meeting COP15 in Copenhagen. However, they didn’t reach a full agreement, but only covered a corner of the total pollution problem caused by the massive emission of greenhouse gasses.
The European Union’s proposal in December 2009 will be that the CO2 emissions from transportation by shipping and aviation have to be reduced by the year 2020. The greenhouse gasses caused by ships have to be reduced 20% and by airplanes 10%, both reductions are based upon the year 2005 levels.
Of course it is good that the European governments have agreed about a plan, but there is a long way of negotiation with other countries about the total CO2 emissions caused by transportation, inclusive cars.
And even more important, it is necessary that the agreements are more than hopes and intentional reductions. The Copenhagen meeting is only successful if the reductions are specified for each country all over the World, and if it is agreed which penalty there will be implemented if the goals are not reached.
If the global pollution continues then the disasters caused by the climate changes will reach a level we cannot even imagine today.

Fight the pollution where you see it. It is so tempting to think of the pollution as something the ‘others’ do. The ‘others’ being those who live in the neighboring city. It is true that the changes in the global climate are caused even by those who live on the other side of our planet, but before we protest against them, then we must sweep in front of our own doorsteps.

Start with an awareness your own polluting footprints, and think of the amount of energy that you use per month. When this is done, then look around with critical eyes.

Are there any polluting industries in your neighborhood? Are the local authorities participating in environmental activities. Is it easy dispose of used items that could be reused or recycled?

If you observe something that could be done better, then talk with your family, friends, and colleagues at work. If you do something good for the environment, then it is very likely that you at the same time have saved some money. Speak proudly about your savings from green initiatives.

The first step in fighting against pollution is communication. Write your observations and comments here:
