The first step in fighting against pollution is communication!

September 3rd, 2009

Fight the pollution where you see it. It is so tempting to think of the pollution as something the ‘others’ do. The ‘others’ being those who live in the neighboring city. It is true that the changes in the global climate are caused even by those who live on the other side of our planet, but before we protest against them, then we must sweep in front of our own doorsteps.

Start with an awareness your own polluting footprints, and think of the amount of energy that you use per month. When this is done, then look around with critical eyes.

Are there any polluting industries in your neighborhood? Are the local authorities participating in environmental activities. Is it easy dispose of used items that could be reused or recycled?

If you observe something that could be done better, then talk with your family, friends, and colleagues at work. If you do something good for the environment, then it is very likely that you at the same time have saved some money. Speak proudly about your savings from green initiatives.

It is necessary that all people fight pollution. It is so easy to put the blame on the industry, but we have to remember that it is the consumers who buy their products.
Therefore, the first step in the war against pollution is INFORMATION!
We have to get and spread the information about how to consume in a way that pollute as little as possible. AFTER we have changed our own polluting habits THEN we can begin to put pressure on the industry and force them to produce in a more green way!
